I saw an ad for a Sigue Sigue Sputnik (named after a russian street gang, meaning Burn Burn Sputnik) gig today and although the name rang a bell I couldn’t remember where I knew them from. After a quick bit of research I realised I knew them from the soundtracks of Ferris Buellers Day Off and GTA: Vice City.

It turns out that they’re quite an interesting band who spent most of their time parodying the very new wave movement that they were part of. I’m sure that there’s a very good chance that they were being ironic, or postmodern or somesuch. Anyway they made some pretty entertaining albeit often completely mental (The track from that video Love Missile F1-11 is actually the less insane radio version, in it’s form on the recommended Flaunt It album it makes diversions into mozart and get’s quite bizarre) synthy new-wave music which is quite a bit of fun.
